The Concept Big Band plays Kenny Wheeler

Über die Veranstaltung
For the second time of the year The Concept Big Band ventures on the deep art of Jazz-suites.
After quite a successful, but surely experiencing tribute (for both musicians as well as audience) of Bob Brookmeyer's „New Works“ – suite and another concert full of original arrangements penned by KUG-students, The Concept Big Band is ready to move on.
This show will be all about Kenny Wheeler’s eight-part masterpiece „Sweet Time Suite“, which are six tunes of the 1990 released album „Music for Small and Large Ensembles“.
Kenny Wheeler’s breadth is stunning. From moody Oliver Nelson and Gil Evans-like expansiveness to compactly propulsive post-bop excursions.
Wheeler's scoring is bracing, offering a gloriously soaring counterpoint to the massed horn section.
The concert will be rounded up with the local trumpet giant Gerhard Ornig as a featured artist. The Big Boss and freshly KUG-staff Johannes Oppel will guide the band. Powered by Dominic Pessl.
